We’re excited to announce the release of the latest Green Paper from the True Potential Centre for the Public Understanding of Finance.

‘Saving us from ourselves’ sets out an ambitious research project aimed at finding solutions to the financial problems Britons cause themselves by failing to put enough money aside for the future.

The Green Paper identifies five key themes that the Centre believes will help to get Britons saving and investing:

1. Improving the public understanding of finance

2. Helping young people form good money attitudes and habits

3. Making it easy to save

4. Simplifying products and information for investors

5. Using defaults to improve consumer investments when they choose not to choose

Saving us from ourselves will form the basis of the future research from the Centre and will inform our ongoing Tackling the Savings Gap campaign. Since 2013, we’ve surveyed over 12,000 members of the public and found a startling gap between the amount people expect to need in retirement and what they are actually saving.

Together with the Centre, we’ll be speaking to the industry regulator (the Financial Conduct Authority), as well as MPs and Government Ministers, to drive change and help more people save and invest for their future.
