Meet Our Workplace Pension Team – Jamie Sexton

At True Potential we have over 260 dedicated members of staff working diligently to make sure that your investments are working for you. As your investments are important to you, we believe you should know the people behind the scenes. Our ‘Meet Our Team’ introduces you to some of the key influencers within our firm so you can put a face to the name, so to speak.

In 2012 the Government launched a new initiative, Automatic Enrolment, to get people to start saving for their retirement. It’s offered by your employer through a workplace pension scheme. Providing you:

• are aged between 22 and state pension age
• earn at least £10,000 per year; and
• work in the UK

your employer will enrol you into the pension.

The biggest advantage to being part of this scheme is that not only do you pay into your pension, but your employer pays a percentage into this too, as well as the Government who pay in via tax relief. You have the option to opt out of the scheme if you wish, however if you do, you will not benefit from these advantages.

For our blog post this week, we’d like to introduce you to our Head of Auto Enrolment, Jamie Sexton.

Can you tell me a little about your background/expertise in the financial services industry?

I joined True Potential directly from University over nine years ago. I have worked in various roles which include support, implementation, sales and auto enrolment.

What is your role at True Potential?

At True Potential I am responsible for the full running of Auto Enrolment. This includes sales, support and implementation. I currently have 44 members of staff who report to me on a daily basis.

What does an average day look like to you?

My average day involves working with the team leaders to ensure every area within Auto Enrolment is working to plan. This includes making sure the sales teams are exceeding their targets, along with the support team are delivering the best possible support to our clients. I am also a part of the management team where I give support and input in other areas of the business.

What are you most proud of in your career to date?

Auto enrolment was a new project for True Potential where I was given the opportunity to build a system and grow a team to actively get True Potential in the market. We now work with over 6,000 employers across the UK and over 1,000 accountants introduce business to us. It has been a really tough two years, but I truly believe we now have one of the strongest propositions in the market.

What do you enjoy most about your current role?

I am a big believer in getting more out of the staff who work for me. I really enjoy developing people and improving their current skills as well as progressing them through the company.

What’s the hardest part of your job?

Managing a large team of people is always difficult. However, I have a good team underneath me who help.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I’m a keen runner which is where a spend most of my spare time. I also have an interest in grass roots football where I help and support my local club. Other than that, I typically spend time socialising with family and friends.
